Some locations have already seen more than ten inches of snow this weekend, but even more are on the way, as a weather system is expected to remain around the area for most of Sunday.
A winter storm warning will remain in effect for most of Sunday, with the warning expiring at 6 p.m.

More than 250 flights canceled at Chicago airports due to the snowstorm
As snow continues to fall in the Chicago area, more than 250 flights were canceled on Sunday at the city’s airports.
According to the Chicago Aviation Department, at least 190 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Take-off flights do so on average 23 minutes late, according to the CDA.
At Midway, at least 70 flights were canceled due to inclement weather, the department said. Delays are less than 15 minutes.
Winter storm warning canceled in several western counties
A winter storm warning, which is expected to last until 6 p.m., has been canceled and replaced with a winter weather recommendation in several counties west of Chicago.
According to the National Meteorological Service, the warning was canceled in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb and LaSalle counties.
A winter weather recommendation remains in place, as some snow may fall. Strong winds could also cause low visibility and slippery conditions due to snow blowing.
Nearly 200 flights canceled at Chicago airports due to the snowstorm
As snow continues to fall in the Chicago area, nearly 200 flights were canceled on Sunday at the city’s airports.
According to the Chicago Department of Aviation, at least 130 flights were canceled at O’Hare International Airport as of 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Take-off flights do so on average 47 minutes late, according to the CDA.
At Midway, at least 61 flights were canceled due to bad weather, the department says. Delays are less than 15 minutes.
Chicago officials remind residents, business owners to clean sidewalks in the middle of the storm
As a winter storm continues to throw snow in the Chicago area, city officials are reminding residents to “be good neighbors” against the storm.
According to city officials, more than 300 snow removal vehicles have been working since Saturday night to clean the city’s streets, and residents are also required to enter by clearing sidewalks in front of homes and businesses.
Snow updates come from the national weather service
The National Meteorological Service has updated its total snow in the entire area, and some locations are approaching 10 centimeters of snow against the background of the current winter storm.
At the NWS offices in Romeoville, 9.5 inches of snow have been reported so far. This is in line with what was reported by a weather station in the Ravenswood area of Chicago, according to NWS figures.
Northwest Indiana is also hit hard by the storm, with Demotte in Jasper County reporting 9.7 inches of snow. Crown Point in Lake County reported 8.5 inches of snow during the storm.

CTA trains delayed due to heavy snow
According to the Chicago Transit Authority, trains on the Brown, Green and Orange lines are delayed due to heavy snow on Sunday:
Over 100 flights canceled at Chicago airports
At 8:45 a.m. Sunday, 88 flights were canceled at O’Hare, while another 54 were canceled at Midway, according to the Chicago Aviation Department.
Several flight cancellations are possible throughout the day, as the snow will continue until the afternoon.
As of 8 a.m., 6.8 inches of snow fell at O’Hare and another 7.4 inches at Midway, according to the National Weather Service.
The last snowfall in the entire Chicago area
The total snow continues to be released by the National Meteorological Service, and some locations already report over ten centimeters of snow already on Sunday.
At Chicago Midway Airport, 7.4 inches of snow fell, while O’Hare Airport reported 6.8 inches as of 8:30 p.m.
In Westchester, 9.3 inches of snow were reported, while in New Lenox, 9.1 inches of snow are currently on the ground, with more expectations during Sunday.

Sunday forecast: snow, sleet and more snow
In some locations west and south of Chicago, snow totals exceeding 6 to 9 inches have already been reported, according to the National Meteorological Service. At the NWS office in Romeoville, 9.5 inches of snow was recorded on Sunday at 7 a.m. and more is expected, as winds on Lake Michigan help fuel additional totals in the northern parts of the NBC viewing area.
Snow will begin to end in the western suburbs in the early afternoon, with the city of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs immediately seeing that the snow continues into the evening, according to current forecast models.
In total, an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow can be expected in most locations, with heavier local totals possible, especially near Lake Michigan.
Temperatures will set in the morning until the mid-1930s on Sunday.
The beginning of the working week will start dry, giving residents in the area plenty of time to clean up after the heavy snowfall over the weekend. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, but by Thursday, highs could rise to 40, as another weather system approaches the region.
