Straphangers was stranded on a Q train for nearly 90 minutes Monday afternoon due to snow on Brooklyn’s underground subway tracks, a horseman told The Post.
“We’ve been between Parkside and Prospect Park for an hour and 20 minutes now. There is no heat in the train, there are 3 people who are not wearing masks, no ventilation at all, ”said train rider Q Rachel Turner immediately after 15:30.
“About 30 minutes ago we were told that the snow had accumulated too much to go on and that we had been given permission to return to Parkside to descend, but since then there has been no word from anyone.” .
Transit officials have confirmed the service outage – which stopped the last Q train scheduled to cross the Manhattan Bridge before the aboveground subways shut down – on Twitter, saying it had to clear “accumulated snow.”
The train soon lost power while waiting, the MTA confirmed – leaving Turner and others thickened. The train and its passengers were eventually redirected to Parkside Avenue Station, Turner said.
He finally got off the train at 3:38 p.m.
With the underground subways out of operation since 2 p.m., Turner walked .6 miles to access the nearest Manhattan train.
An MTA spokesman later blamed the delay on “equipment preventing snow from the rails”. An investigation is ongoing.
“This was an isolated incident on an extremely severe day and we apologize to our customers for what was a frustrating and disconcerting delay,” MTA Shams spokesman Tarek said in a statement.
“Preliminary findings show that power was lost for part of the time during the incident, which was related to snow obstruction equipment on the rails.”
