‘The Simpsons’ seemed to be right about the inauguration

Still, as the longest-running sitcom in US history, the timeless series often finds itself in tune with “life imitates art” moments that take place years after airing.
For example, this week users on social media had to wonder what the last coincidence was between Vice President Kamala Harris’s outfit during the inauguration and Lisa Simpson’s outfit in a 2000 episode.
In “Bart to the Future,” Lisa takes up the presidency and asks the now viral phrase, “As you know, we’ve inherited quite a budget crisis from President Trump.”

In the episode, Lisa was wearing a purple jacket and pearls. At Wednesday’s inauguration, Harris wore a purple jacket and pearls. Since Harris served immediately after Donald Trump’s presidency, comparisons by viewers were quickly made.

The similarities to the inauguration didn’t stop there for Simpsons fans. Actor Tom Hanks hosted a virtual concert on Wednesday evening, which aimed to preserve President Joe Biden’s theme of national unity in times of crisis.
In 2007’s “The Simpsons Movie”, Hanks portrays a proposed new Grand Canyon in Springfield, the birthplace of the Simpsons, in a cameo role.
The Simpsons remain our psychics

‘Hello. I am Tom Hanks. The US government has lost its credibility, so it’s borrowing something from me, ”he says.

At the end of the scene he says, “If you’re going to choose a government to trust, why not this one?”

Speculation about the show’s farsighted abilities is nothing new. Fans claim the show predicted the tiger attack of Siegfried and Roy, smart watches, “murder horns” and Disney buying 20th Century Fox, among other things.

The longevity of the show and the exhaustion of possible sitcom scenarios have even been mentioned in other comedies, including the ‘South Park’ episode, ‘The Simpsons Al Did It’.

When asked in 2016 about predicting Donald Trump’s presidency to date, writer Dan Greaney told The Hollywood Reporter, “It was a warning to America.”

“And that just seemed like the logical last stop before I hit bottom. It was thrown because it was consistent with the vision that America was going to go crazy,” he added.
