The Senate suspends the appointment of Jesús González Cruz as interim secretary of education

The Senate closed its appointment today, Tuesday Jesus Gonzalez Cruz as interim secretary of the Department of Education.

Senate resolution 167, now adopted, recommends that, given that González Cruz has not held an educational position in his career, he should not take the reins of the agency.

We recommend:

“Given that the candidate for the leadership of the Department of Education does not have in the CV actions or projects directed or oriented towards the country’s education, the Puerto Rican Senate recommends the rejection of lawyer Jesús González Cruz”, reads the legislation at the end of the explanatory memorandum.

His appointment was rejected a few days after Governor Pedro Pierluisi Urrutia withdrew his appointment Elba Aponte Santos to lead the agency, after the appointing committee of that body recommended on Saturday not to approve the official for the position.

Once the senatorial president, the senatorial president, has appointed his appointment as head of the agency Jose Luis Dalmau Santiago, ensured that, under Articles 172 and 173 of the Political Code, appointment for an internship in any agency must go through the approval of the Senate.

The delegation of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), the Movimiento Victoria Ciudadana (MVC) and the senator of the Independence Party of Puerto Rico (PIP), María de Lourdes Santiago Negrón, took part in approving the measure, which was given out loud.

“There are a large number of professionals in the Department of Education … out of so many experienced people, with a doctorate and a principal’s license, the governor has not identified a single resource that meets the basic requirements that the country’s school community supports.” , Said Dalmau Santiago during his round of debate.

“We advise the governor to identify an accredited education professional,” he added.

Meanwhile, the New Progressive Party (PNP) delegation agreed to the appointment.
