The migration of coaches from the San Francisco 49ers to the New York Jets did not end with Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur heading east. Two more coaches who were with the 49ers last season, Tony Oden and Mike Ruttenberg, will join Saleh’s defensive team with the Jets, according to reports.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Media reported Oden will take over as senior assistant and corner coach in New York. Oden joined the 49ers staff last season as coach of the defenders and defenders, so his role will be similar to that of his new club.
Ruttenberg was the coordinator of the San Francisco passing game last season in his only year on the team. He will take on a new role with the Jets and training linebackers according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
The 49 at the end of January added former Lions defensive coordinator Cory Undlin to their staff. He will absorb both the vacant roles of Oden and Ruttenberg. ESPN’s Field Yates reported that Undlin will be the coordinator of the passing game and will train the defensive defenders.
