A reporter who thought he was offering Super Bowl players an inside service sings a different song after facing the backlash.
Zach Maskavich of WESH 2 News in Central Florida posted a video on Twitter on Friday in which he scheduled the live rehearsal of the national anthem outside Raymond James Stadium, the Super Bowl 2021 website.
The duet’s performance, performed by Jazmine Sullivan and Eric Church, was timed by Maskavich at 2 minutes and 16 seconds.
In the world of gambling, the length of the anthem is a popular bet for the Super Bowl, so it is a very important piece of information. Maskavich’s Twitter account has 1,687 followers, but his video has had more than 585,000 views since Saturday at 17:00.
Before the video went viral, the hype above was about two minutes, give or take a second, according to AwfulAnnouncing.com. But that soon changed as a lot of money came along. This pushed the odds on a card from -110 on each side to -1,500 over and forced some sports cards to stop betting on that prop.
According to ESPN, “Maskavich’s friends asked him to keep an eye and an ear out for inside information about everything from the color of the Gatorada that the teams used, to information about musical performances before the game and at the break.
Maskavich has discovered what many reporters already know to be true about social media: people can become vicious when they hide behind anonymity. His answers are full of anger for influencing the lines in sports books.
“I felt like he was going to win some traction, leading to the Super Bowl, and people like props betting,” Maskavich told ESPN. “But I didn’t think it would explode the way it did. People come up to me, wondering if Vegas paid me to do it, and all these other crazy bastards. ”
