Following negotiations between the governments of both countries, the Mexican authorities carried out the respective repatriation of the body to the country of origin.

Victoria Salazar, a 36-year-old migrant from El Salvador and resident in Mexico with a humanitarian visa since 2018, was brutally subjected on March 27 by four police officers, after an alleged disturbance of public order. Agents killed her during the procedure due to the rupture of two vertebrae, authorities established.

The compatriot’s family demands justice in this case, which received an international conviction and was compared to the murder of George Floyd in the United States last year.

He also indicated that he supported “relatives permanently … The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported the acceleration of the repatriation process”.

“The documents issued by this immigration authority will allow minors to follow the process of resolving their refugee application,” INM said in a statement.

The delivery of the visas took place a few hours after the Salvadoran’s mother and brother met with the Mexican authorities in Tulum on Thursday, in a conversation that included on the phone the Mexican interior secretary, Olga Sánchez Cordero.

Revolt and protest

Salazar’s death, recorded on video, also prompted protests by international organizations and groups accusing Mexican security forces of racism and misogyny, in addition to the demands in El Salvador, according to EFE.

Several UN agencies, such as the IOM, UNHCR and UN-DH, have condemned the murder of the woman these days and called on the authorities for a “prompt and impartial” investigation.
