Luis Enrique Santander and Adalid Maganda, among the main ones, pointed out their mistakes in just six days in the MX League
The show at Guard1anes 2021 is paid for by the Referees Commission of the Mexican Football Federation. Given the lack of scorers and the good performance of the teams on the field, the whistles attracted more attention for their failures or controversies than the rest of those who form the MX League.
The last one who was in the eyes of social networks and public opinion was Luis Enrique Santander, the central who canceled a goal for Pumas at the Nemesio Díez stadium due to an inappropriate course, and that in the end that decision caused the defeat of the university students against Toluca, 1-0.
Luis Enrique Santander’s case is hardly the top of the mountain, because behind that error comes the case of Adalid Maganda, who still resounds in the corridors of the Referees Commission, because the whistle denounces racism as the cause of his dismissal and even threatens to prevent Mexico from hosting the Cup World Cup in 2026.
Champion Maganda himself denounced the refereeing matches, despite the pandemic, and even assured that there are preferences within the Arbitration Commission, in charge of naming the whistles every week. “There is a group, they are called ‘los mamaditos’.”
These scandals are also preceded by the departure of Arturo Ángeles, in charge of entering the MX League with VAR, and now replaced by Mauricio Morales, as referee instructor. Morales is denounced as one of those who organize parties among referees.
The Mexican referee also drew attention when he did the physical tests in Ciudad Universitaria, regardless of the fact that Mexico City was on a red signal. Also, a group of whistleblowers, in minor divisions, reported that they have to pay for their own PCR tests if they want to continue their profession.
In Guard1anes 2021, in the absence of a remarkable figure or high-level teams, the referees steal the show.
