The queen returns to royal duties after the death of Prince Philip

The 94-year-old monarch hosted a ceremony at Windsor Castle for Earl Peel on Tuesday, who recently left his post as Lord Chamberlain.

Lord Chamberlain’s office orchestrates the Queen’s program of ceremonial events, including everything from garden parties and state visits to royal weddings and the state opening of Parliament.

The engagement was recorded in the Court Circular – a list of engagements and daily events carried out by the royal family.

“Earl Peel had an audience with the Queen today, handed over his wand and office insignia as Lord Chamberlain and the insignia of the Chancellor of the Royal Victorian Order, and took leave to relinquish his appointment as Lord Chamberlain, when His Majesty invested him with the royal Victorian chain, “it read.

The monarch previously had a phone call with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday morning.

The Court’s circular also revealed that Princess Anne joined a video call on Tuesday for the Spring Conference of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, of which she is the patron. Anne is the queen and only daughter of Prince Philip.

The royal family observed a two-week period of mourning on Friday, when it was announced that the Duke of Edinburgh had died peacefully at the age of 99.

Final preparations are underway for his burial on Saturday at St George’s Chapel on Windsor Castle grounds.
The event will be a more disabled occasion than previous royal funerals as it has been adapted in light of coronavirus restrictions, but will be in line with Prince Philip’s personal wishes, Buckingham Palace said.

Steps have been taken to remove elements that would violate current pandemic measures. Current Covid-19 rules in England limit the number of people who can attend funerals to 30.
