Check your emails: You may have an invitation for the next major PlayStation 4 beta. According to MP1st, Sony is sending codes for a system software update scheduled to be released publicly some time in the spring. With the PS5 already available, it’s less complete than previous PS4 firmware updates – although it does include some worthwhile quality of life changes.
For example, you’ll now be able to turn off message notifications for the groups you belong to and ask to join your friends’ games. Moreover, if you “hide” a game from your profile, your friends will no longer be able to see that you are playing it. This is something we could have done earlier in the generation, to be honest, because some review embargoes stipulate that we need to appear offline.
Perhaps the biggest change is the removal of the Community feature, which is discontinued. There are no changes to the controversial new Party system, although Sony has acknowledged that it is exploring improvements following solid feedback last year. Did you receive a beta invitation?
