The president receives 537,432 tablets to give to students

President Luis Abinader said yesterday that his government is reaffirming its political will to close the digital divide, ensuring that the benefits of technology reach people without leaving anyone behind.

Abinader, leading the delivery of more than half a million technological devices (tablets), together with the Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, said that they will be given to students of the initial level of public schools and that they work for a better future for each of the children. of the country.

The president explained that 537,432 tablets were received, 67% of the total commitments, from an investment of 5,559,522,338.72 US dollars, in addition to those already received, to complete 800,000 tablets for an amount of approximately $ 8,000 million US.

Mixed class

The presentation and the start of the delivery of the devices took place in the warehouses of the Ministry of Education in Haina, from where they will be sent, first to the 48 municipalities that started the mixed classes, then to the whole country.

The tablets were purchased through the United Nations Development Program’s (UNDP) global procurement mechanism, which saved the state $ 18 million, the president said.
