The president of AMPR reacts to the withdrawal of the appointment of Elba Aponte

The president of the Association of Teachers (AMPR), Víctor Manuel Bonilla Sánchez, reacted on Saturday to the withdrawal of the appointment of the secretary of education, Elba Aponte Santos.

“From the beginning we said that it is the job of the Senate to judge Professor Aponte and that we will respect the decision, because no matter who is in that department, our job as the exclusive representative of the teaching staff will always be to supervise the secretary and protect our registration rights.” , said Bonilla Sánchez in written statements.

“We are confident that the governor will choose a person who can establish a concrete short-, medium- and long-term action plan to meet the urgent needs of our education system and address the major challenges we face; someone who is open to dialogue and sees us as collaborators, as we have always been. Our goal has always been to help improve our system for the benefit of our enrollment and our students who are our reason for being, ”added the AMPR President.

Bonilla Sánchez replaced Aponte Santos in the presidency when she was appointed by Governor Pedro Pierluisi as secretary of education.

Pierluisi withdrew the appointment of Elba Aponte Santos on Saturday, after Senate President José Luis Dalmau Santiago informed him that he did not have the votes to be confirmed.
