The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), the main opposition party, criticized President Luis Abinader’s speech of responsibility, saying that “with only half a year in office, there are already many unfulfilled promises.”
Even after the president’s speech, PLD lawmakers in both chambers established a position on accountability.
“What this government knows how to do very well is to note the achievements of the previous government. I heard this today, when it clearly mentioned its own initiatives that were clearly not carried out by its administration,” said Iván Lorenzo, spokesman. of the PLD in the Senate.
The spokesman, who read the PLD’s position surrounded by fellow lawmakers, denounced that the current government has not fulfilled any of its promises.
Promises that have been kept unfulfilled include reducing food and fuel, protecting health, not lending money, reducing investment, lacking an education plan and greater safety on the streets.
Similarly, they described the current government as “pointless, improvising and changing its mind every day because it has no plan and is afraid of losing its popularity.”
“Is this the change they told us about? A day-to-night change between what they said they would do and what they were actually doing?” Lorenzo asked.
In this regard, he reiterated the “lack of experience and chaos of the PRM” and in front of which “the Dominican people pay”.
During sections of President Luis Abinader’s speech, PLD spokesmen in both chambers of parliament were seen not applauding or avoiding stopping on occasions when the rest did.
