The parade surprises in Santurce as a greeting for the festivities on San Sebastián Street

The Agua, Sol y Sereno theater collective celebrated a greeting for the San Sebastián street festivities in a different way and in accordance with the situation the world is going through as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic: practically through Facebook and Youtube.

On this first day of the series of events called “Virtual greeting for the street festivities of San Sebastián 2021”, a tribute was paid to the artist, teacher, writer and political express, Elizam Escobar, who died recently. In addition, a head-to-head created in his honor premiered this week at the Agua, Sol y Sereno workshop.

The first part of the festival was a combination of original music created with texts from Escobar’s writings, dance, poetry and performance to honor the life of the late artist.

“Today we pay a special tribute to a dear friend who has just died“Elizam Escobar, who has always lived free despite the 20 years he lived in prison,” said Pedro Adorno, director and co-founder of Agua, Sol y Sereno.

The second part of the show consisted of a tour of the Agua Sol y Sereno workshop in Santurce. Stilt walkers and big heads joined Héctor “Tito” Matos and the group La Maquina Insular to parade on the streets of the Trastalleres de Santurce sector.

This was the first of three parades scheduled for this weekend and the next, which they called “Virtual greeting at the San Sebastián 2021 street festivities.”

Adorno pointed out that, although this year was different due to the health situation experienced as a result of the pandemic, the spirit of celebration did not diminish and therefore the theater group that “always said present in the activities of justice and activities in village ”I could not miss such a special meeting for Puerto Ricans.

The activity will continue next weekend, when on Saturday, January 30 at 17:00, the musician Héctor “Atabal” Rodríguez is honored with a band that will leave another place in San Juan and will include the participation of the musician’s son, Caymmi Rodríguez and the group Atabal.

While on Sunday, January 31, at 15:00, Agua, Sol and Sereno will pay tribute to anthropologist and historian Ramón López.
