At the start of the NFL’s new league year in March, Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will become an unrestricted free agent, assuming he will not be re-signed in the meantime.
With an expiring contract, Jones is in a precarious situation and the Packers are heading off-season, although it seems that he had at least a legitimate chance to sign with the team again earlier.
According to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, the Packers offered Jones a contract extension that would have made him one of the top five highest paid players in the NFL on an average annual basis.
With that value, the contract would have given Jones an average of at least $ 12.5 million per season on OverTheCap.
Jones’ representation eventually turned down Green Bay’s offer because it lacked “big money guaranteed,” according to Demovsky. Jones later broke up with his former agent and has since hired Drew Rosenhaus.
Jones, who was drafted in the fifth round in 2017, played all four seasons in his rookie contract.
The Packers star finished fourth in the NFL this season (1,104 meters) and was named to her first Pro Bowl.
They can argue for or against Jones’ re-signing, especially when considering the current situation of the Packers salary cap.
Bringing Jones back could mean the difference between cutting certain veterans or signing other key taxpayers, such as the All-Pro Corey Linsley center. In addition, the Packers have a promising young novice in AJ Dillon who seems more than capable of coping with a full task.
One thing remains clear, however, Jones is one of Green Bay’s most versatile weapons in attack and a locker room favorite. The Packers front office will have an extremely difficult decision to make about Jones’ future this season.
