The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 exceeds the number of confirmed cases worldwide

The global coronavirus vaccination campaign has reached a milestone by surpassing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to a series of analyzes based on estimates from different countries.

Johns Hopkins University estimates that 104.5 million people have tested positive for coronavirus in the 192 countries and territories that confirmed infections as of next Thursday. The United States is the worst affected country with 26.5 million cases, ahead of India, Brazil, the United Kingdom and Russia.

On the other hand, the Our World in Data portal, prepared by the University of Oxford, estimated this Thursday that more than 107 million people have already received a dose of the multiple vaccines developed to combat COVID-19. Again, the United States is in first place with 33.8 million, above China (24 million) and the United Kingdom (10.5 million)

Proportionally, however, Israel is the country with the most benefit in its campaign to immunize the population, having inoculated 60 percent of its citizens. They are followed by the United Arab Emirates, which is about 36 percent, and the United Kingdom, which is over 15 percent, while in the case of Spain it is nearly 4 percent.

More than 2.2 million people have died from COVID-19 worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University.
