The number of flights between the US and the DR is rising amid the pandemic

American Airlines has announced an increase in six new direct flight frequencies to the Dominican Republic, with operations to and from Las Americas International Airports (AILA) in Santo Domingo and the Santiago International Terminal to Philadelphia, United States.

US Director General for the Dominican Republic Oliver Bojos said the new flight frequencies will begin in April this year 2021.

He also pointed out that as part of the economic recovery, Santo Domingo’s airline operations will increase, with three additional flights a week to Philadelphia International Airport.

He explained that these flights will start operations on April 3 this year, after noticing that the American airline operates only one weekly flight on Saturday to the respective destination in the Dominican Republic.

He also announced that, starting with April 2, pending a approval from the national authorities, a new route is planned, departing from Santiago airport to Philadelphia airport. On this new route, American Airlines will perform three flight operations per week on different days.

As for the equipment that will be used by the airline in the operation of these new flights, he indicated that the Boeing 737 aircraft with a capacity of 172 passengers will be used in them and will be available for booking starting this Saturday, January 30th.

Currently, the North American airline offers over 82 weekly flights from the country, connecting Santo Domingo, Punta Cana, Santiago and Puerto Plata with connecting centers in the North American cities of Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Miami and Philadelphia.
