The notch could be much lower on the iPhone 13

The iconic iPhone notch has remained virtually the same since Apple launched the iPhone X in 2017, but this year things could change, as new information suggests that the notch is shrinking for the iPhone 13.

Earlier this month, noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has released a research note (via Mac rumors) claiming that Apple intends to do so reduce the notch size of iPhone Face ID. But now MacRumors has obtained a photo of alleged iPhone 13 front glass panels from a Greek repair service, showing what a small notch might actually look like. (Note: For legal reasons, we can’t redistribute the image here, so check out MacRumor’s post for a better look.)

Kuo previously mentioned that part of Apple’s solution to shrink the notch is to reduce the size and number of components needed to support Face ID. However, the new photo also shows that by strengthening the components and moving The iPhone’s headset speaker is raised while combining it with the phone’s frame, it seems that Apple has managed to reduce the size of the notch by almost half.

While many probably want Apple to get rid of the notch on the iPhone entirely, if the supposed photo is correct, the notch is still in line for a significant size reduction. However, this is not the first time I heard Apple could shrink the notch, because similar rumors were reported before the launch of the iPhone 12 and that notch has not received any changes.

In terms of brightness, other predictions mentioned in Kuo’s note include support for 120Hz VRR displays with LTPO technology on more expensive iPhone 13 models, along with a new Qualcomm X60 modem for improved 5G performance and upgraded cameras, including the iPhone expansion 12 Pro Max sensor change technology on the entire iPhone line 13.

Moreover, despite the suggestion that Apple could actually launch a “portless” iPhone in 2021, it seems that Kuo has backed down this prediction, as each new iPhone 13 will have a traditional lighting port.

The only thing that seems to remain the same is the overall design of the iPhone, several sources claiming that Apple will keep the more angular boxy design it introduced last year on the iPhone 12, which in itself was a call back to previous iPhones such as the iPhone. 4.
