On March 27, 2011, Nintendo has launched the 3DS, its portable successor to uber’s success Nintendo DS. It has been sold since then 70 million units around the world and has had a number of great games released in the last decade.

I was lucky enough to catch a 3DS during launch. While the lack of consoles was one thing in 2011, it was nothing like today. Here’s what I mean: My father and I went to a store, maybe Walmart, on a whim, about a week after the 3DS release. I have not checked online or call ahead. And when I got there, I found four or five 3DS consoles behind the Plexiglas, sitting around, waiting to be bought. You can imagine that today? I don’t see myself entering a store a week or even a month after the launch of a large console and finding only a few in 2021.

Once I got the 3Ds, I played a lot Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D because I’m a big idiot and I love it resident Evil Games. I was also delighted play Revelations. The other memory I have about the 3DS at launch was playing AR cards and games. Not more than a few days, but they were fun and neat to show people.

3DS is the last Nintendo console I bought at launch. (Although if this Switch 4k ends up not being too expensive, I could buy a Nintendo console again. We will see..) While it is away from my favorite console, I fondly remember the time I spent with it. I even liked the 3D functions. I left the slider on because it looked good.

What memories do you have of the Nintendo 3DS? And who else played that Revelations demonstration in Mercs 3D much more than once?
