Apple is working on a MagSafe compatible battery pack for the iPhone 12, which, unlike previous Smart Battery cases for previous iPhones, will be attached to the “iPhone 12” models with magnets.
The battery will be easy to turn on and disconnect from your iPhone, and because it will be easy to remove, it will not be as bulky or as uncomfortable as the previous battery options designed by Apple. The MagSafe battery isn’t available yet, but this guide covers everything I’ve heard about it so far.
Current rumors
The signs of a MagSafe battery were first spotted in the code in iOS 14.5 beta, which referred to an unannounced “battery pack”. The name was remarkable because there is no current product that Apple calls a battery, because the previous battery options designed by Apple were called smart battery cases.
After the code was found in beta, Bloomberg confirmed Apple’s work on a MagSafe battery pack, which appears to have been in development for at least a year.
Design
The MagSafe battery attaches to the back of an “iPhone”, and some of the prototypes have a white rubber exterior.
Earlier cases for smart batteries were available in white, along with black and pink red, so we could see some of the same color options with the MagSafe battery pack. The MagSafe battery pack is likely to have a silicone coating similar to Apple’s AppleiPhone® silicone cases.
It is not yet known how big the battery will be or how thick it will be, but again, Smart Battery Case can give some clues.
Apple’s “smart battery case”
All smart battery cases had a hump on the back, where the battery was housed, so I could see the MagSafe battery working the same way and it could be about the same size as the leather wallet accessory, another MagSafe accessory on the back of a MagSafe SiPhone .
Magnetic force
Conformable Bloomberg, Apple has intensively tested the magnetic power of the MagSafe battery to make sure it stays firmly in place when charging.
Upload speed
A MagSafe battery pack would probably charge iPhone 12 models at the same speed as a standard MagSafe charger, although this is not guaranteed and charging may be slower due to the lack of a power adapter. The MagSafe charger charges iPhone 12 și, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max at a maximum of 15W, and iPhone 12 mini at a maximum of 12W, but the charging speed may not be necessary for a battery that remains attached to the back of the phone while you are on the move.
Development issues
Apple has been working on the MagSafe battery pack since the launch of the “iPhone 12” models, but Apple has encountered software issues that have delayed the launch of the accessory.
Apple is trying to resolve an issue that causes the iPhone to incorrectly report that the battery is overheating, and there are also issues when a user switches between using the MagSafe battery when a case is attached and when the case is removed.
The fact that there are problems may not come as a surprise to those who previously owned Apple’s smart batteries, as there were problems with some of them. In 2020, Apple launched a replacement program for smart battery cases designed for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, as some of these cases were experiencing charging issues.
Assumed functions
Leaker Jon Prosser, who has mixed experience when it comes to predicting Apple’s plans, says there will be two versions of the MagSafe battery pack, one of which will have “reverse charge.”
It is not clear what “reverse charge” means in this context. It may be able to charge multiple devices at one time, such as charging PiPhone and AirPods at one time, or it may refer to the fact that PiPhone may charge the battery when connected to a Lightning cable.
Alternative options
Other companies are developing MagSafe compatible battery options. Anker, for example, has introduced the PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank, which is designed to adhere to the back of a SiPhone MagSafe using the magnetic connection.
Anker’s Magnetic PowerCore Power Bank is not designed using Apple’s official MagSafe system and is capable of charging a PiPhone up to 5W.
release date
Due to the development issues facing Apple, it is unclear when the MagSafe battery pack will be released and Bloomberg he said there was a chance it could eventually be postponed or canceled.
