Destiny 2 has achieved great expansion every year since its launch, but 2021 will be different. Bungie announced today that the Witch Queen, originally planned to be launched in the second half of this year, will be postponed until 2022 due to its size and ongoing problems with working from home during the covid-19 pandemic.
“As we began expanding production for Witch Queen last year, we made the difficult but important decision to move its launch in early 2022,” the studio wrote. “[W]We also realized that we need to add an unannounced extra chapter after Lightfall to completely complete our first saga of Destiny. ”
In addition to teasing this action following the enlargement previously planned for 2022, which will probably now be pushed to 2023Bungie’s assistant game director, Joe Blackburn, analyzed the causes of the delays in detail:
- The Witch Queen is an important evolution in the ongoing story of Destiny 2. Beyond the Light she built the foundation and allowed us to weave the world building of Destiny and Destiny 2 together, but the Witch Queen will ignite fire on a strongly interconnected Lightfall narrative. and beyond, unlike anything I’ve tried so far, with characters, bows, heroes and villains that persist in several future versions. More importantly, the conclusion of these launches will end the “Saga of Light and Darkness”, the conflict we first introduced with the launch of Destiny many years ago. As we develop the Witch Queen, we realize that we need this release to be the first of many crucial moments in the story of Destiny. With so many directions and addictions to what happens in The Witch Queen, we wanted to make sure we gave ourselves enough time to build this journey in the right way, starting with an exceptional first chapter in The Witch Queen.
- With Destiny now committed to a constantly evolving world, we want to make sure we still take the time to update the systemic foundation of Destiny 2 to support everything we want to do in the future. Our ultimate vision for Destiny 2 remains – a definitive action MMO, a unified global community where you can play Destiny anywhere with your friends. For 2021, this means modernizing our approach to keeping the Destiny weapons and armor game fresh, refining our vision for PVP, implementing transmog, and adding Crossplay. More below.
- Finally, and most importantly, we are proud to be uncompromising when it comes to our commitment to the health of our teams. With COVID-19 keeping us away from the office and the large amount of work on the plates, we had to move the date to make sure that both this year’s updates and The Witch’s Queen were both delivered to the quality we strive for, and on a program that made sense to everyone involved.
In short, The Witch Queen it sounds like it’s going to hit DestinyHis story, which has been an incredible slowdown since the launch of the first game, has become overdrive, and in order to do this right and put the basic fix, Bungie needs more time.
Traditional, Destiny the expansions were launched in September. Last year Beyond the Light was the first to slip, reaching in November, instead, the first expansion that the studio offered after parting Activision. With the announcement of these latest delays, it looks like it will have the original predictable launch cadence of the series leave room for a more realistic “when it’s over” approach.
