The Consul General of the Dominican Republic in the American city of New York, Eligio Jáquez, stated in an interview that leaders of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) “forced” him to work with his brother at the consulate.
Jáquez made these statements in Anibelca Rosario’s “Más Cerca” program, where he explained that his brother had been selected to represent the country in the United Nations (UN), but his nomination has not yet been ratified, thus helping him in his work.
According to the consul, this explains why his brother appears on the payroll of the New York consulate.
‘I’m coming to New York, a place where I have a lot of friends, and why don’t I say that? many close friends and relatives, and the party leadership, Neftalí Fuertes, president, and Mr. Tontón Rodríguez, campaign manager, two people of the highest hierarchy, imposed on me that in what came the appointment of my brother to the United Nations. the truth is, his deal fell through and he helped me, ”he said.
Likewise, he stated that he is confident that the appointment will eventually come, although he has not specified a specific time interval.
Disagreement
Likewise, Jáquez disagreed with Dominican Republic-born U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat’s view on the allegedly high salaries of Dominican Republic consular workers.
He said he knows of some cases of vice consuls who have not started their work because the salary awarded is not sufficient.
“I have friends of mine appointed by the current government who have not been able to take office because they pay a vice consul a salary that’s around $ 3,000 between the endowment and the salary,” the consul said.
