DENVER (KKTV) – COVID-19 data from Colorado is trending in the right direction.
On Friday afternoon, the public health of El Paso County sent a positive update on the decrease in COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks. Then, on Friday night, the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment, along with the Colorado School of Public Health, released an updated statewide modeling report. The modeling report shows that there is no evidence of a Thanksgiving hit until 18 days after the holiday. The report also shows the current level of transmission control, hospital demand and cases should continue to decline.
“The constant downward trend in Colorado is not what you see across the country. The Colorado trend is much better than most states. Colorado’s actions and Colorado policies have made a difference and prevented a substantial increase in Thanksgiving Day and have led to the declines we see now, “said Dr. Rachel Herlihy, state epidemiologist, CDPHE.
The models are based on Colorado data and assumptions based on the current state of science. However, there is still a concern with holidays such as Christmas on the horizon.
“We cannot give up now. Hope is on the horizon with the vaccine. We need to get over the holidays with the level of diligence we had in connection with Thanksgiving. Please celebrate in person only with the people who live with you, ”said Jill Hunsaker Ryan, Executive Director, CDPHE. “The best gift we can all receive is a healthy holiday season.”
