The new CDC guidelines for too cautious travel

CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen criticized the CDC’s new guidelines for people who have been completely vaccinated against Covid-19, saying they are “too cautious in a way that defies common sense.”

The new guidelines advise fully vaccinated Americans to be able to safely gather with other people who are vaccinated and refrain from quarantine after being exposed to someone with Covid-19 as long as they are asymptomatic. However, the CDC still discourages travel.

Wen said CNN editorial office anchor Brooke Baldwin that he wished the guidelines had gone further than they did because the three vaccines authorized by the FDA so far were all “safe and extremely effective, especially in preventing severe disease, preventing hospitalization and death.” for vaccinated people, and there has also been “growing evidence that the administration of vaccines also reduces your likelihood of being a carrier”.

Baldwin commented that many people, including herself, thought they could feel safe boarding a plane to see family members. “Today’s airline industry is really pushing against these new CDC guidelines that fully vaccinated people should avoid travel. Why does the CDC encourage people who have been completely vaccinated not to travel? ”

“So this is one of those examples where I think the CDC is far too cautious in a way that defies common sense,” Wen said, “because you look at what I say about quarantine,” noting that the CDC does not encourage vaccination. either quarantined or even tested after exposure as long as they were asymptomatic.

“It just doesn’t make sense not to be able to travel, especially if you can get together with your loved ones.”

Wen said he thought it was very important to provide better travel guidance because “a lot of people are eager to see their grandchildren they don’t necessarily live with.”

In fact, Wen added, “I would actually go further and say that people who are fully vaccinated should be able to travel, they should be encouraged to travel,” using “restoring freedoms” as an incentive to encourage people to get vaccinated. .
