The new beta version of Peloton iOS allows you to create training programs

If you don’t already have one The platoon of the car, you may not be lucky for a while because the company’s logistical problems. But whether you have a bike or a treadmill at home, you can still take advantage of it the newest feature in the Peloton app. That is, if you have an iPhone or iPad.

Peloton’s launch of new software features for users of its on-demand fitness classes and training machine owners continues to baffle me, but the features themselves are actually good. Case in point: a beta scheduling feature that launches today in the Peloton iOS app. Scheduling is a time-consuming tool that allows you to set up a class calendar, either live or on-demand, with two weeks out. For on-demand training, you will see a new Schedule button below the class description (where the Stacks button is on the Peloton website interface) and you can select a day and time. You will receive a notification when your course is about to start. See below for screenshots of what the process entails.

This is great! So useful! People who use Peloton tend to be a little difficult when it comes to creating an optimal training routine, and this feature makes it easier for them to plan course weeks. It’s a type A person’s dream. But it’s also useful for those who need a little encouragement – committing in time to take a class and inviting a friend to join eliminates some of the excuses that we come to them to get out of the exercises.

The social function is not the same as the first beta test of Peloton software, another social feature called Sessions, which allowed you and a friend to take a class at the same time. Instead, it’s more of a link-sharing exercise – send a link to a classmate to a friend using the iOS Share Sheet, which you could already do. But the invitation also includes the day and time you plan to take the course, and your friends can add it to their own programs. (Sessions have received excellent feedback in beta, but have since ended. A Peloton spokesman told me he could not confirm an official launch date for the sessions.)

This brings me back to how Peloton introduces new features. Listening to subscriber feedback is great and I know from my deep dives on Reddit that Peloton members really want a programming tool. But just like the recent addition of stacks, a feature that allows you to create a training playlist, but only on the Peloton site or on a Peloton machine, the Scheduling tool is so limited. This seems to be a feature that is easy to launch on a large scale and is one that people have requested an application for, so keeping it on iOS only (even for now) is unfortunate. And the fact that you can create Stacks and Schedules separately, but you can’t create a Stack Program, is weird! A cross-platform calendar tool would be ideal.

I haven’t tested the programs yet, but if it’s easier than marking individual hours and trying to remember what I wanted to take that week, I’d venture to guess that I’ll be on board with this supplement wholeheartedly.

The beta feature is part of an app update released today on the App Store and is open to all Peloton subscribers.
