The new $ 60 Apple Siri remote can be used with older Apple TVs

Apple has finally removed the Apple TV remote control, so offended, with a new iteration, which gives up the confusing touchpad for some good old-fashioned buttons. But you won’t need to log out to get an updated Apple TV 4K from Apple. Apple sells the new remote control separately for $ 59, and customers will be able to use it with any Apple TV based on tvOS.

This means that even if you own a first-generation Apple TV 4K or an original fourth-generation Apple TV from 2015, which debuted with the Siri remote, you’ll still be able to upgrade to the new and improved clicker.

This is great news for anyone who still has an older model, as the original Siri remote is awful, and the recently refreshed Apple TV 4K models are still at the extremely high end of the spectrum for a new set-top box – especially if you already have have the first generation Apple TV 4K.

The new Siri remote also replaces the old (bad) model of all new Apple TVs sold in the future, which includes both the 32GB and 64GB versions of the new Apple TV 4K and inexplicably still on sale, Apple TV HD (which, at $ 149 for the six-year-old set-top box, is an extremely heavy sale compared to the $ 179 Apple TV 4K that has been refreshed).

Orders for the new Siri remote will open on April 30 and will begin shipping sometime in the second half of May.

By the way, Apple confirms that the new Siri remote doesn’t have a U1 location chip inside, so be sure to find it when it’s buried in the cushions on the couch.
