The NCAA will allow fans limited to the Division I men’s basketball tournament

The NCAA will allow a limited number of fans in each round of this year’s NCAA men’s tournament, it announced Friday.

Up to 25% physical distance capacity will be allowed in all rounds, including the Final Four, a decision made in conjunction with state and local Indiana health authorities. 25% will include all participants, staff and family members, as well as fans. Masks and physical distance will be required.

“We continue to use the knowledge we have gained throughout the season about how to play games in a safe environment,” NCAA President Mark Emmert said in a statement.

The entire tour takes place in Indianapolis and the surrounding area. Teams will stay at hotels around the Indiana Convention Center, which will be used as a practice center.

“This year’s tournament will be like no other and, although we know it won’t be the same for anyone, we look forward to providing a memorable experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans at a once-in-a-lifetime tournament.” , said Dan Gavitt, senior vice president of NCAA basketball. “After the cancellation of the 2020 tournament, we are excited to welcome a few fans back to all stages of the Division I men’s basketball tournament.”

The Final Four will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium, with previous rounds at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Hinkle Fieldhouse, Indiana Farmers Coliseum, plus Mackey Arena in West Lafayette and Assembly Hall in Bloomington.

The meeting room will allow 500 spectators to participate in the games held there, Indiana University said.

The selection Sunday is set for March 14, the Final Four taking place on April 3 and 5.
