Naughty Dog ‘s latest project in The last of us part II Just released in June 2020, but it looks like the studio is already starting work on its next game. Although this information has not been confirmed directly by the company, the recent work of some of the studio’s employees gives us a good idea of what might happen internally.
A number of Naughty Dog developers near the end of last year began to announce that they had received new promotions within the company. While the most notable of these moves probably saw Neil Druckmann become co-chair of the studio, a handful of other changes took place. As noted on LinkedIn pages for developers Richard Cambier and Vinit Agarwal, each member was promoted to a director position in September last year. These two moves are particularly noteworthy, as they seem to indicate that both Cambier and Agarwal will lead development teams that will move forward.
As for which team could the two lead? Well, that’s the big question here. Agarwal specifically notes in his own profile that he primarily has experience with multiplayer titles. It is also worth noting that in recent months, Naughty Dog has hired a number of new employees. This tells us that clearly, the first steps of working for a new game seem to be starting.
Even if Naughty Dog starts working on his next project, the associated thing The last of us part II does not necessarily seem finished. In 2019, it was revealed that the multiplayer aspect of the sequel has been removed from the larger package, but that its development has not been completely removed. Instead, the vision for this multiplayer component was considered to be much broader compared to the original Factions mode. The last of us and that its new iteration will be revealed in the future. As of this writing, this revelation has not yet been transposed.
