ISTANBUL (AP) – Turkish authorities are investigating the appearance of a mysterious monolith in southeastern Turkey.
The metal block was found by a farmer in Sanliurfa province on Friday with an old Turkish script that read “Look at the sky, see the moon”. The monolith, 3 meters (about 10 feet) high, was discovered near the UNESCO World Heritage Site called Gobekli Tepe, which has megalithic structures dating back to the 10th millennium BC, thousands of years before Stonehenge.
Turkish media reported on Sunday that gendarmes were watching CCTV footage and investigating vehicles that may have carried the monolith.
Other mysterious monoliths have appeared and some have disappeared in many countries in recent months.
