1992 Sensitive football is one of the greatest video games of all time, but the developers of Sensible Software did not create their classic in a vacuum. They had to work to get there, developing the 1988s Microprose Soccer the first.
In almost all ways, the precursor directly to Sensitive, Microprose– released in the US as Keith Van Eron’s football– had the same top-down action and arcade sensibilities as Sensitive, just instead of appearing on Amiga and PC and exploding in the early ’90s, it was released on Commodore 64 and PC in the late’ 80s and … it was also a hit, but not cultural strength that Sensitive was.
