The mourning swan stops the German trains

It was a bug failure.

A swan with a broken heart mourning its dead partner recently stopped trains for nearly an hour on a high-speed railway in central Germany, according to reports.

The sad swan refused to leave the tracks for 50 minutes on Dec. 23 after his companion flew in the overhead power line and died, the Guardian said.

Swans usually mate for life, according to the France-Presse Agency – making the death of their partner even more devastating.

The grieving birds “sat beside the mourning body, resisting attempts by officials to lure it,” according to the French wire service. As a result, twenty-three trains were delayed.

Firefighters eventually caught the bird and released it into the Fulda River.
