A pack of wild monkeys broke into a house in India and snatched the newborn twins – killing one of the 8-day-old girls, according to reports.
The mother – identified as 26-year-old R. Buvaneswari – told police the monkeys entered her home in Thanjavur on Saturday picking up tiles, The Times of India reported.
Buvaneswari said she was alone at home with the twins and her 5-year-old daughter, while her husband, 29-year-old house painter Raja, went to work, according to the report.
She claimed that the robber monkeys stole her babies while she was in the outside toilet.
The mother said she rushed into the house when she heard screams from the animals and was shocked to find the missing babies. She was running back outside when she heard one of her babies crying and saw one of the monkeys holding the baby.
Neighbors then chased the monkey and rescued the girl, but the other child was found floating dead in a ditch, The Times of India reported.
“Once we received the information about the incident, we rushed to the scene and looked for the second child. Finally, we located the child in the ditch “, said the police inspector S. Chandramohan for the press.
“I sent the body to the Government Medical College Hospital to be post-mortem,” he added.
However, Mr Ilayaraja, the district forestry officer, described the incident as “the rarest and rarest” and said his mother’s report was being investigated.
“It is very difficult for the animal to remove the plates to enter and exit through the same hole,” the official said.
“Moreover, according to the doctor’s statement, the baby under observation, as well as the baby who died, had no traces of being grabbed by the animal on their body,” Ilayaraja continued.
“Since they are infants, when animals like monkeys lift them, their joints can be dislocated. There are no bruises, scratches or dislocations of the joints. However, we cannot reach any conclusion. ”
But this is not the first time there have been reports of monkeys attacking babies in India.
Two years ago, a monkey snatched a 16-day-old child from the village of Talabasta. The child was later found dead in the bottom of a well, Sun reported in the UK.
