The Modern COVID vaccine swells face cosmetics in some

An advisory committee of the Food and Drug Administration noted that people with facial cosmetic fillers could have side effects from Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine.

Several participants in the facial filling process suffered swelling and inflammation after receiving the vaccine. A dermatologist in Los Angeles said the reactions were caused by a dysfunction of the immune system.

Facial fillings help smooth wrinkles and increase cheeks and lips.

“Your immune system that causes inflammation is revitalized when you receive a vaccine, that’s how it should work,” Dr. Shirley Chi told ABC7 in a report Thursday. “So it makes sense that you would see an immune response in certain areas where I see a substance that is not a natural substance in your body.”

Chi said the side effects were easily treated by medical staff and should not prevent people from receiving the vaccine.

“In these cases, all patients had swelling and inflammation in the area where the filling was administered,” Chi said. “Some of the patients got their cheeks filled six months before the vaccine and one patient had their lips filled two days after the vaccine. They were all treated with steroids and antihistamines and all their reactions were resolved.”

On December 18, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was the second drug to receive emergency use authorization from the FDA. Pfizer and BioNTech have teamed up to produce a vaccine that was approved on December 11th.

The Moderna vaccine should not be stored at ultra-frozen temperatures, so it is easier to store than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
