Santo Domingo, RD.
The vaccine against COVID-19 was approved on Thursday, December 31, by the General Directorate of Medicines, Food and Health Products (Digemaps) of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance.
The British AstraZeneca, which is the one that will be supplied in the country, together with the University of Oxford have developed one of the vaccines against COVID-19, which has some features compared to the others, among them is the price, because it will cost 2, $ 8, which would be about $ 163 Dominican pesos each dose. People receiving the first dose after 15 days should receive the second, the presidency said in a statement.
According to the Dominican government, another advantage is the storage and transport method, because it can be kept at the temperature of a refrigerator, it would be between two and eight degrees Celsius, compared to other vaccines, modern and that of Pfizer / BioNTech, can only be stored long-term at very low temperatures difficult to obtain in our tropical country.
The special transitional authorization for the vaccine “COVID-19 AstraZeneca” was granted by Digemaps based on Resolution no. 00053, of 30 December 2020, issued by the Minister of Public Health and Social Welfare, authorizing the Directorate General of Medicines, Food and Health (DIGEMAPS) to grant temporary special permits for vaccines against COVID-19, as long as the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and compliance with a number of requirements that will be required are guaranteed to vaccine manufacturers.
The decision to approve the supply of this vaccine was taken in accordance with the provisions of General Health Law 42-01 and its regulations, which allows the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to take extraordinary measures in case of emergencies.
We announce that DIGEMAPS has issued the permit approving for our country the vaccine developed by @UniOxford/@AstraZeneca . Let’s not lower our guard. God bless DR!
