The Mexican who weighed 595 kilograms is preparing to lose the last 19

Juan Pedro Franco Castañeda will then try to remove up to 80 kilograms of adipose tissue, skin and blood, which would involve up to eight surgeries by the end of the year.

Mexican Juan Pedro Franco, known for being the most obese man in the world, has overcome covid-19 and is preparing to lose the last 19 kilograms that separate him from the beginning of the process of rebuilding his body.

“I am delighted that this is to improve and move forward, happy that we will continue the process after it has been stopped for a long time due to the pandemic that has affected us all,” said the 36-year-old Efe Saturday., which weighed 595 pounds.

In recent months, the Guinness World Record holder for his weight has lost his parents to SARS-CoV-2, but defeated the coronavirus despite suffering from diabetes and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), said his bariatrist, José Castañeda. .

The obese doctor revealed that, although Franco’s symptoms from covid-19 were mild, his medical history caused lung injuries with fatigue sequelae and a 19-kilogram recovery that brought him to his current weight of 294 kilograms.

“Covid-19 caused sequelae in the lungs, a mild fibrosis that made it a little difficult for him to walk as he had done before, the muscle part in which he had a certain degree of disease, his legs with a certain degree of numbness and which also caused him to regain weight, “he said.

This increase in volume complicates the skin reconstruction surgery that was scheduled for early 2021, so in mid-February he underwent laboratory studies to see if he can continue with the protocol.

After almost six months of contracting the virus, his health is generally good and stable, according to doctors, who are assessing whether weight recovery can be reversed with diet alone or whether a new bariatric intervention is needed to treat less than 220 kilograms.

This weight would make viable the reconstruction process in which Castañeda tries to remove up to 80 kilograms of adipose tissue, skin and blood, which would involve up to eight operations by the end of the year.

“Weight loss will be very helpful for the plastic and reconstructive part of Juan Pedro, because the risks will be lower, less weight and more chances of success,” said the specialist.

The mental aspect was fundamental for Franco to overcome not only the process of losing 331 kilograms and leaving the bed where he lay, but also to defeat covid-19 and overcome the death of his parents, who were an important pillar for him. .

Franco said he was lucky to have overcome covid-19, which he attributed to weight loss and the doctors’ control over his diabetes for several years.

“I continue with the same attitude that anything can be done and that I have to go on and finish everything I started so that what my parents and my doctor did is worth it, I am on the road, there are many years of struggles and we will not to lower his arms because of what happened, “he said.
