The Mets will not take the position for GM Jared Porter fired

Sandy Alderson’s plan to return to the Mets was to oversee the entire organization, with a baseball president and a general manager under him.

Then he became Alderson and just a GM.

On Tuesday, it became entirely the Sandy Alderson show.

After the dismissal of GM Jared Porter – he was fired after ESPN reported sending naughty text messages to a journalist in 2016 – Alderson said he had no immediate plans to take the job. He will let Alderson run the main office with some sort of GM commission.

Key players include Assistant GM Zack Scott, Chief Strategy Officer John Ricco, Vice President of Amateur and International Scouting Tommy Tanous, Chief Research Professional Bryn Alderson and Chief Operating Officer Ian Levin. In addition, Ben Zauzmer was recently hired by the Dodgers to oversee research and development. Joe Lefkowitz, research and development manager, also attends the daily Zoom meetings.

Scott, a former Red Sox executive, was a Porter finalist for the GM position. Its power lies in analysis.

“One of the things we’re going to miss is about the same number of contacts and information that we were able to get through Jared,” Alderson said. “Jared has a lot of contacts at stake – not just at the GM level, but at the GM assistant level and below. This is a rich source of information and can lead to smaller offers that complete our list. This is an area we will have to take. ”

Alderson’s involvement up to this point came in larger transactions, highlighted by the transaction that led to Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco of Cleveland.

“My focus on baseball is going to increase somewhat and we’ll see how things develop,” Alderson said. “One of the things I enjoyed was the way the front office team developed as a group, led by Jared.

“Jared was energetic, knowledgeable and I was very happy with the direction he was taking. This has a secondary consequence in this situation, but I will be a little more involved, but I have a great faith in our group and I am sure that they will be able to intensify ”.
