New York Mets continues to pursue the free market even now they would be “very focused” on signing the utility in Puerto Rico Kiké Hernández, according to MLB Network correspondent Jon Heyman. However, it remains to be seen whether the negotiations will be affected after New York CEO Jared Porter was fired on Tuesday.
Hernandez, 29, comes to help the Dodgers win the World Series, and his versatility in defense would suit almost every major league club.
The Puerto Rican bat was not consistent and there were frequent problems against the right-handers (in his career he has a .673 OPS). But Hernandez can play on the field or patrol the prairies, having played at least 10 games as a starter in five different positions.
