The mem version of the “communist conga” in Havana goes viral

A meme version of the controversial conga Don’t mess with Cuba runs like wildfire on social networks.

The intervention, which mixes humor and criticism, was led by Luis Alberto Ramírez, known for being one of the producers of the show Hello! Ota-Ola and for his sage “Memes de Luis.”

“Go on, the communist conga continues to do this. It’s a tiradera,” he warned in the description of the video, which in just over 30 seconds opens fire on artists to show support for the regime.

“We are Diaz-Canel’s dogs who take off their boots / Those who defend poverty and the CCP / If your family is hungry, I eat well,” says the new lyrics created by Luis.

In addition, reference is made to some of the most recent appearances by the Cuban government to alleviate the food crisis in which the country is immersed, such as marpacífico marmalade, tripe hash and, more recently, curiel.

The original piece is composed by Alejandro García Virulo and with the participation of famous Cuban music personalities in support of the island’s government, such as Lazarito Valdés, Israel Rojas, Yumurí, Ricardo Leyva, Amaray, Mayito Rivera, among others.

According to the official portal Cubadebate, the theme is “a response of Cuban artists to the constant challenges of the United States.” For his part, Lazarito Valdés, director of Bamboleo, assured that the song is a sign that young people and Cuban music “remain united with the revolution”.

The video was directed by José Manuel García Suárez and features Conga de los Hoyos and Guaracheros de Regla. The setting was the center of the Paseo del Prado in Havana.

In addition to throwing the “orange president”, Virulo wrote that “those who lead his commissions” hurried to form “a titingó” because they know that “the baron will end”; a fragment that many linked to the San Isidro strikers and other artists, activists and journalists who called for an end to repression and respect for human rights.

Cuban journalist José Raúl Gallego publicly regretted on Virulo’s own Facebook profile that a talented artist like him will borrow to divulge the Cuban government’s version and accused US President Donald Trump of harming the Cuban people, while asking him to clarify whether he was referring to the San Isidro and 27N attackers in the aforementioned excerpt, a question that Virulo avoided.
