The mayor of San Salvador still has no official winner

On March 1, March 1, the TSE analyzed less than 5% of the minutes.

The capital does not yet have an officially defined winner of the municipal elections, because at the closing of this note (at 12:30 on March 1) the Supreme Electoral Tribunal has not yet analyzed even 5% of the minutes.

At that time, none of the candidates with the best chance of winning, Ernesto Muyshondt and Mario Durán, dared to declare themselves winners.

With 15 of the 531 minutes counted, the New Ideas-Ghana coalition counted 494,000 and the New Ideas 696,000, while ARENA garnered 751,000 votes.

In the latter part of the day, the mayor of the capital Ernesto Muyshondt expressed his concern about the actions of the Government before the closing of the vote, in which he aspires to his second term with the ARENA party.

However, during the afternoon conference, he assured that “from now on we can say that the victory in San Salvador is ours; that we will win the capital again ”.

The mayor was confident that the people took into account the projects he promoted despite the fact that, as he warns, his leadership has suffered a constant blockade by Executive officials.

Mario Durán, the candidate for president for the Party of New Ideas, also gave the victory himself through various messages expressed on his social networks throughout the day. At night, the party launched fireworks warning of the victory of the mayor’s office, but later, at the party headquarters, supporters waited for more significant data to mobilize. Until late at night, there was no idea of preparing a holiday for their candidate.

During the day, Durán told several journalists that he was sure of victory, but at night he showed caution in his posts on social networks.

For his part, Muyshondt said the election campaign was affected by the non-discriminatory use of government resources and institutions.

In this context, in the morning he asked the government not to use the National Civil Police or the Armed Forces during the counting process, and in the afternoon he added an appeal to the international community to be vigilant.

“We appeal to the diplomatic corps and to international observation, to the General Prosecutor’s Office, also to pay attention to how the next few hours unfold, especially after the polls close,” he insisted.

“I hope they will respect even the already flawed results with the fraud they have generated, which has been going on for months,” he said.
