The mayor of Salinas asks DTOP to install a traffic light at the intersection after the death of a minor

The mayor of Salinas, Karilyn Bonilla Colón, called on the leadership of the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTOP) and the Authority for Motorways and Transport (ACT) to take immediate action on the problems caused by constant traffic. Desvío 180 motorway, intersection with Paseo Manuel González, towards the Playita community.

“Unfortunately, we have the second death in less than a month at that intersection. Not a week goes by in which we do not have reports of car accidents in that area and we request DTOP and ACT for years in writing to conduct a traffic study for the installation of a traffic light or other security measure to solve this problem. “, explained the former director of the State Agency for Emergency Management and Disaster Management (now Negotiated).

In February last year, a man who was driving a motor boat died, who was hit by a car and yesterday there was another accident in which a 14-year-old teenager died. The mayor also pointed out that, in fact, state agencies have installed a tool to study traffic in the area “but that was a year ago, but we do not know its outcome.” This detour on PR 180 was made to cope with the intense and regular traffic of the urban area and became one of the main ones in Salinas.

“There is nothing that can compare the pain of families who lose a loved one to an accident and I repeat, in less than a month we had two fatal cases in that area. This situation must be resolved immediately. If we had the force of law in the municipality to have solved this, it would have been done a long time ago. But it is in the hands of the central government agencies “, concluded Bonilla Colón.
