The mayor of Guánica assures that the result of the contest will not change

Following the decision of the Supreme Court establishing that State Electoral Commission (EEC) will have to initiate a reward in the fight for the mayor of Guánica to find votes by direct nomination, the mayor of the municipality, Ismael “Titi” RodriguezHe assured today, Tuesday, that the final result will not change.

In his first statements after the decision, Rodríguez stated that the judgment validated what had already been decided by the Court of First Instance.

“We claim, on the basis of the minutes we have, that we grant several votes that are not marked with X to the candidate for direct nomination does not change the final election results“Rodriguez said in a statement.

“It is up to the EEC to examine the minutes, to respect the decision of the Supreme Court and to put an end to this problem,” he added.

On the night of November 3, the EEC results showed the candidate by direct nomination, Edgardo Cruz Vélez, as the winner of the competition.

However, once the review is over, the agency’s website reflects that Rodríguez, a candidate for the Democratic People’s Party, received 2,386 votes, while Santos Seda, of the New Progressive Party and former mayor of the city council, received 2,332 votes.

In turn, the portal also reflected about 2,362 votes in the direct nomination column, although it does not specify how many are for Cruz Vélez.
