The Masked Singer Season 5 Episode 7 reveals: Crab, Seashell

SPOILER ALERT: Don’t read ahead if you haven’t watched Season 5 Episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired on April 21 on Fox.

Too hot to handle, too cold to hold, Bobby Brown was the next celebrity eliminated in Wednesday night’s edition of “The Masked Singer”, immediately followed by “Sister, Sister” star Tamera Mowry. It was a hard night at the beach, as Brown had been disguised as a crab while Mowry was dressed in a shell.

That’s right, it was a night of double elimination, part of a two-hour extravaganza that saw “Super 8” competitors reduced to just six. Viewers also had a closer look at the mysterious “Cluedle Doo,” a masked star that shares additional clues behind the scenes for viewers – and, for the first time, panel members.

For Crab, Ken Jeong and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg got along well with Brown. Robin Thicke went with Ray Parker Jr., Nicole Scherzinger thought it was Keith Sweat. Guest panelist Rita Wilson, named Martin Lawrence.

For Seashell, Nicole Scherzinger correctly guessed Tamera Mowry; Ken Jeong chose Sarah Silverman; Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg named her Vanessa Hudgens; Robin Thicke went with Haylie Duff. Guest panelist Rita Wilson named Scout Willis.

Every little step Brown took on “The Masked Singer” was a tribute to his children, who inspired him to do the show.

“We watch The Masked Singer religiously every Wednesday,” he said. “We have been following him since day one. So, knowing that we are big fans and knowing how my children reacted to watching this show. I just thought it would be a good idea to try to fool them, to see if I could get caught. Most of the time I always say, “That’s Daddy!” Now, to be actually at the show now and have a chance to say this is Daddy, and it’s really me. ”

On their own, the children guessed it was Brown. But cool it now, he didn’t confirm it. “Tonight, they’ll be able to tell, you see, I told you you were a dad,” he said.

It was Brown’s prerogative to choose the Crab costume, even though he knew it would be cruel. “When I first saw her, with her claws, shell and mustache, I thought it would be wonderful,” he said. “It was extremely difficult to move. There was no movement around, there was no dancing involved in the shows. Compared to how I perform. It was so big in my head that it made it hard for me. So I had to use my head weights to practice. I used football headphones, different things to try to get used to, but my claustrophobia still started. ”

Spectators saw the impact after Brown’s previous show, when he had to rush off the stage because the costume was too hot.

“It was the perfect amount of songs for me, the perfect time on the show,” he said. “I had so much fun with the cast that they didn’t know it was me and some of them knew it was me.”

For his latest performance, Brown sang “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. He previously performed “Ain’t No Sunshine” by Bill Withers and “Give It To Me Baby” by Rick James.

“These were songs that were emotional, things that reminded me of different things in my life and it was therapeutic to be able to sing those songs and I had a ball,” he said.

Brown said that once was enough for “The Masked Singer”, but he wouldn’t mind coming back for “The Masked Dancer”.

As for Mowry, her appearance in “The Masked Singer” brought her back to singing on stage for the first time since adolescence.

“It was my dream to go back to singing,” she said. “I started my career in entertainment in a group called Voices. I was 14 years old. At the same time, I was doing a pilot called “Sister, Sister.” So when “Sister, Sister” was taken over, I couldn’t do both. And I took the path of acting. I’m so happy I did, but at the same time I always wondered what it would be like to sing and sing again. ”

“Sister, Sister” was a huge success for Mowry and her sister Tia, leading to other opportunities, such as singing the national anthem at the Malibu Triathlon over two decades ago – the last time Mowry said he sang in public.

Mowry said the “Masked Singer” experience was more of a whirlwind than expected – but “an amazing whirlwind. Mask production, manufacturers, voice coaches. They were all fantastic. It’s stressful and challenging, but at the same time I make it so happy and fun that it’s an experience I will never forget. And I’m so grateful I’m part of the Masked Singer family. ”

For her latest song, Mowry chose “I Think We’re Alone Now,” by Tiffany. Prior to that, she performed “Listen to Your Heart,” by Roxette; “Trust”, by Demi Lovato; and “Tell Me Something Good,” by Rufus feat. Chaka Khan. Mowry said it is difficult to learn a song and dance moves within two days, as well as the rules for keeping her appearance secret and singing live.

“I felt that one of the most challenging things was to play with this big mask on Seashell,” she said. “And if you want to move, your movements have to be a little bigger than life, than you would if you didn’t have a suit. Doing so can kind of exhaust you. You have to really control your breathing because you sing. But with anything and everything I adapt. And because I’m having so much fun, you have to let go of all this and learn as you go. ”

At the same time, she added: “If there is anything, I felt very safe for COVID to do that. You are covered from head to toe. And I like how, when I first sang, people would say, “Who is this? Who is the shell? Nobody judges you. They saw him for what he was, they saw a show for what he was. And I liked being unknown for about a month. ”

Now, Mowry hopes to pursue singing more actively, including a gospel album and musicals. “I had to choose when I was 14, which way to go. And I will never hide the other side of me again, “she said.

This season’s costumes include Raccoon, Seashell, Black Swan, Snail, Grandpa Monster, Phoenix, Chameleon, Russian Doll (s), Porcupine, The Purlet and wildcards Orca, Crab and Bulldog.

Brown as Crab and Mowry as Seashell join previously unveiled stars Mark McGrath (Orca), Nick Cannon (Bulldog), Logan Paul (Monster Grandpa), Danny Trejo (as Raccoon), Caitlyn Jenner (as Phoenix) and Kermit the Frog (as Snail).

Season 5 contestants boast 26 Grammy Award nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records.

The show’s panelists also compete for a “Golden Ear” trophy, based on each masked performer’s first impressions (which McCarthy last won). Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg each had a point so far, heading for this episode.

Crab’s first impressions of the panelists: Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg got along with Bobby Brown, Thicke’s was Kool from Kool and the Gang, and Scherzinger was “a member of Jackson 5.” Another point for Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg, now equal to two.

For Seashell’s first impressions, Jeong went with Kristin Chenoweth; Scherzinger chose Hillary Duff; McCarthy Wahlberg chose Vanessa Hudgens; Thicke thought it was Ashley Judd. No one was right, but Jeong and McCarthy Wahlberg come in next week with two points each.
