The “Lord of the Rings” trilogy returns to theaters 20 years later

Coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of the release of the first film in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Warner Bros. today announced the theatrical re-release of the three films directed and remastered in 4K by Peter Jackson starting April 30.

“Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” will be available for one week, between April 30 and May 6. The next day, May 7, the second part will be released, “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers”, which can be enjoyed until May 13; and the third, “The Return of the King,” on May 14-22.

Launched in theaters in 2001, the series based on JRR Tolkien’s books was a critical and public success. The three films won a total of 17 Oscars, of which eleven for the third installment.

Last year began filming an ambitious new series for Amazon studios based on “The Lord of the Rings” which will take place thousands of years before the events narrated in that trilogy and in “The Hobbit”, in “The Second Age”.
