The legend of the Zelda brand delighted Nintendo Switch fans

This year marks the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda franchise and it looks like Nintendo Switch fans will have many ways to celebrate the event. One of these could be in the form of a Zelda anniversary compilation with older games in the franchise. There have been rumors about that collection and a new brand could give them some credence. Twitter user @KeliosFR (via. @ Okami13_) points out that Nintendo has been approved for a new trademark in Australia for “Phantom hourglassZelda fans might know this as a sequel to the Nintendo DS The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Last year marked the 35th anniversary of the original Super Mario brothers. Nintendo celebrated the occasion with a number of different offerings, in particular Super Mario 3D All-Stars, an excellent compilation of three classic Mario games. It would not be surprising to see Zelda receive a similar offer for her own birthday. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is one of the few Wii U games that has not yet been ported to the Nintendo Switch, so a collection that contains that game and Phantom hourglass (and may ocarina of time) would make a lot of sense!

Of course, it’s just as plausible for Nintendo to release a remake of the game as opposed to a port. Legend of Zelda: Ghost Hourglass launched in 2007 and could benefit from a fresh coat of paint. Developer Grezzo has a long history of working on the Zelda franchise, including a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening the one launched on Switch in 2019. Since then, the developer has been very quiet. Maybe Zelda fans can expect to see another remake released this year!

Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, Zelda fans will just have to wait patiently. The franchise means a lot to the company, so fans can be sure that something big is working. An announcement from the company can’t be too far away!
