Kia Stinger, you’ve probably heard by now, it’s the real deal, a sincere challenger for a car like the BMW M340i. And even cheaper. On Tuesday, Kia confirmed that the base model will get 300 horsepower, or 45 horsepower more than the output, as I first heard in August. Kia Stinger is moving towards the ideal.
Not that 255 horsepower four-cylinder is something that can be sniffed out in the base model 2021 and you could always go for the twin-turbo V6 and get 365 horsepower. But, and maybe this is just an aesthetic thing, 255 horsepower has always felt agonizing up close. the right amount of horsepower, but only short and therefore inappropriate. On the other hand, three hundred and sixty-five horsepower seemed to compensate little.
Which leads us to this day, when Kia confirmed he had corrected his serious mistake. The base stinger will get 300 horsepower from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbo; that power will be sent through an 8-speed automatic with paddle changers. Kia is also very excited about some new LEDs.
- Standard LED headlights with a new DRL signature or optional “Stinger-signature” DRL LEDs and headlights
- Standard rear LED stop lamps, covered by a new attractive design, which extends the full width of the tailgate; GT gaskets receive a complete LED treatment with LED indicators
- New 18- and 19-inch wheel models defined by weak geometric and technical shapes
- More aggressive exhaust tip design for enhanced visual appeal
I am more excited about the Scorpio finish, which will come in addition to the GT-Line, GT1 and GT2 models.
The special edition Scorpio, which will arrive in late spring, further accelerates Stinger’s attraction with:
- Select the exterior colors: Snow White, Aurora Black and Ceramic Silver
- Rear spoiler
- Black wing trim, side mirror covers and dark exhaust tips
- Unique black wheels
- Carbon fiber inner lining
Kia says it has also managed to get three more horsepower from the V6 in higher versions, as it now makes 368 hp, but the fact that the base has a power of up to 300 horsepower destroys some of the appeal of this engine. Both are available in either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations, and the gas mileage suffers slightly in the four-cylinder version of the latter. The four-cylinder version receives 25 mpg in RWD and 24 mpg in AWD, while the V6 receives 20 mpg in both. However, the four-cylinder numbers are as good as the 255-horsepower output engine.
The Kia Stinger 2022 also has most, if not all, driver assistance systems equipped on modern cars, such as automatic cruise control and various collision warnings and a lane departure assistance system, all optional.

We are fast approaching a period in which car manufacturers will produce their latest cars with an internal combustion engine, given the vast transition from industry to electricity.
