NUECES COUNTY, Texas – Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales issued a statement after local health officials announced more than four hundred new COVID-19 cases.
On Thursday evening, the public health district of Nueces County reported 438 new cases of COVID-19. Judge Canales said the number of new cases is worrying news.
“We are analyzing the data to see if we need to take action to counter local outbreaks and to see if any reporting anomalies have contributed to this sudden one-day increase in cases. We cannot consider this an anomaly – we must consider this an urgent warning, especially because of the holiday gatherings that are taking place now, “Canales said.
She added that local doctors are assessing their ability to respond to a sustained increase in the number of positive cases. The Nueces County judge said she would be proactive in seeking assistance through the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) if officials anticipate an increase in hospitalizations based on the increase in positive cases.
Canales said: “I urge all residents of Nueces County to take all precautions to reduce the chances of coronavirus exposure. And as we talk about practicing the 3 Ws – wearing a mask, washing hands, watching the distance – it’s important to follow all the precautions recommended by the Texas State Department of Health and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “
