The jailbreak in Georgia may be on his way to Jacksonville

The Telfair County Sheriff’s Department says Robert C. Lee, 42, escaped the yard Friday afternoon.

He is considered armed and dangerous. Authorities think he may be headed to Jacksonville because he has family in the area. He was initially arrested in Jacksonville on the basis of a Georgia warrant of armed robbery.

Delegates, US Marshals, Georgia State Patrol, and other agencies are looking for Lee. He was last seen in gray shorts and a white T-shirt. He is 6′3 ″ and weighs 175 pounds. He has a tattoo of a chessboard on his left arm and a game board on his right.

Duval court documents show that Lee escaped from prison before – in 2001 when he was incarcerated for major theft.

His earlier records also show that he served a prison sentence in Florida for the severe destruction of a pregnant victim. His most recent indictment concerns making false bills in 2013.

News4Jax crime and security expert Ken Jefferson said that if Lee returns to Jacksonville, he probably won’t be staying long because the police will be looking for him here. Telfair County is approximately a three-hour drive from Jacksonville.

“People who live in Jacksonville who may know him and know that he used to live near them should be especially wary,” Jefferson said.

News4Jax spoke to Lee’s mother on Saturday and learned that she was on the phone with the sheriff’s office Saturday morning. She said she doesn’t know where he is.

Anyone who sees Lee is asked to immediately call 112.
