OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A picture is worth a thousand words, and this posted on Gulliver’s World Goods Facebook page is controversial.
“I couldn’t believe that someone in our community would publicly post a poster that said, ‘Don’t feed wildlife, don’t feed the homeless.’ They are our brothers and sisters, ”said Lisa Clark, who saw the post.
The sign is nowhere to be found. He disappeared as soon as he came. But the image is shared again and again online.
“It was very upsetting for me because I was a single mother for over 16 years,” Lisa said. I have been very close to being homeless so many times. “
Gulliver’s global goods manager, Matt, claims he has been homeless for a while and says he has no idea who put the sign outside the store.
“It’s not me, it’s not the property here,” Matt said. We are compassionate people. As I said, I sheltered, dressed, fed, hired one here when I first entered the place. Doing weird things, painting, stuff like that. This is clearly not how we feel about their difficult situation. “
But in a post on Gulliver’s Facebook page, the store says it was an “extremely poor choice made by an employee” and that the employee was fired.
However, one of Gulliver’s co-owners, Chaz Kline, contradicts this. In a phone call, Kline said no one was fired, investigating and taking full responsibility for what was put on their property. Clark hopes people will use it as a time to reflect and help those in need.
“Nothing about homelessness is funny,” Lisa said. And I really want to appeal to everyone that during this pandemic and even at this time in our society. We need to be good to each other. ”
According to other posts on social networks, the business next door also had the same sign placed in their window. Several calls and a message to management were not returned.
Here’s a new sign that was put up at Gulliver’s.
