Industrial pastries are one of the great enemies of a healthy diet. For many years, breakfast and snacks in Spain consisted of a bowl of milk with cocoa powder and something to drink in it: muffins, sobaos, milk bread … I mean, a menu in which added sugars were too present and other important nutrients, such as healthy proteins and fats, were evident in their absence.

All the buns, even the ones we make at home, have one thing in common: they are made of a meal of refined flour, saturated fats and a good amount of sugar. The main advantage of preparing these recipes at home is that we have more control over the ingredients we put in them. But also, being recipes that require work, we do not cook them very often.

Indeed, the main problem of industrial bakery is that it is an affordable and very cheap product. This has allowed us to eat these products for years that do us no good: they have a high number of calories, which promotes weight gain, their nutrients are useless and, in addition, have a high glycemic index, which generates large increases in blood sugar.

A bun on a whim

In any case, the industrial bakery has something that fascinates us: it is very sweet, pleasant and, in addition, it can remind us of our childhood. Many of these products they are promoted with attractive complaints and funny pets on their packaging. Probably the most famous industrial cake in Spain is the donut, a type of donut much softer than those traditionally made in our country.

Although the most iconic of all is the one sold by the famous Bimbo brand, it is possible to find very similar buns in the supermarket and in cafes. Needless to say, donuts are unhealthy: each of these buns involves more than 200 kilocalories and 50% of its composition consists of carbohydrates that come from added sugars and refined flour and starch.

Of course, if we eat a healthy diet throughout the year – based on vegetables, fruits, legumes and nuts – the sporadic eating of one of these buns will not harm us. But if you’re one of those people who needs to have something sweeter and donuts are among your favorite whims, there are recipes to make this type of cake in a healthier way.

A different donut

Nutritionist Blanca García-Orea has on her Instagram page a large number of recipes for sweets made from healthy foods. Donuts, of course, are included in this collection of recipes. In this post, the expert explains how to make a donut No flour, no sugar, no sweetener, no gluten and no dairy. Although it seems impossible, you can make pastries without using all these components.

To make this recipe you just need eggs, almonds —Or another type of dried fruit we prefer—, bananas, tangerines, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon. All these ingredients, in the quantities indicated by the nutritionist, are mixed and placed in the oven at 200 degrees. Finally, add a layer of chocolate which is made with tablets with over 85% cocoa.

These recipes have a healthier profile than industrial pastries. Now, we shouldn’t even consume them frequently, and above all, they can never replace a piece of fruit, no matter how much you ask for the recipe for these vegetables. As EL ESPAÑOL explains in this article, “not because they are healthier, we can eat them every day or frequently because they will have even more calories than another dessert or breakfast (for example, a tomato toast). ) ”.
