The hackers claim to have stolen files belonging to a prominent Jones Day law firm

A hacker claims to have stolen files belonging to the global law firm Jones Day and posted many on the dark web.

Jones Day has many prominent clients, including former President Donald Trump and large corporations.

Jones Day said in a statement that his network had been breached. The statement said a file-sharing company he used had recently been compromised and received information. Jones Day said he was continuing to investigate the breach and would continue to discuss it with affected customers and competent authorities.

The post by a person who identified himself as a hacker, named Clop, includes several individual documents that are easily examined by the public, including The Wall Street Journal. One note is addressed to a judge and is marked as a “confidential mediation patent”, another is a letter of intent for “confidential documents” attached. The diary could not immediately confirm their authenticity.

The newspaper managed to see the existence of many more files – mammoth-sized – also claimed to belong to Jones Day, posted by the hacker on the so-called dark network. Hackers usually post such stolen information after the pirated entity fails to pay a ransom. The newspaper managed to contact the hacker using an email on his blog.
